Super/Imposition - Overview

DAT/EM's Super/Imposition hardware and software system is a powerful graphics aid that makes digital mapping more efficient. Designed to allow stereoplotter operators to see digitized map data optically superimposed on photogrammetric models, Super/Imposition greatly reduces map compilation time and enhances overall map accuracy.

With Super/Imposition, mappers know exactly which objects have been digitized and which have not. Additionally, when existing digital files are superimposed over new photography, changes in the image are easily identified and incorporated into the digital file. Super/Imposition virtually eliminates feature omission errors.

Super/Imposition is available for both MicroStation® and AutoCAD®. It is always supplied as part of the DAT/EM Summit Evolution digital stereoplotter. For analog and analytical stereoplotters, an additional high-resolution monitor (besides the regular PC monitor) is used in which the superimposed image originates. Through a series of lenses and prisms, the digital image is introduced into the optical path of the stereoplotter. The operator views the image in one of the stereoplotter's eye-pieces.

The Super/Imposition system displays and pans with a smooth, coordinated motion of the graphics image and stereoplotter stages. Super/Imposition's real-time response and high-resolution graphics means there is minimal redraw time. When compiling in the MicroStation version, the operator can turn specific levels (or layers) off while leaving others on. The MicroStation and AutoCAD versions both allow the operator to turn text and reference files on and off.

Super/Imposition - Feature Highlights
  • Digitized objects appear superimposed onto the stereo model. This makes it easy to see digitizing progress and object accuracy.
  • Super/Imposition is excellent for change detection and map revision. When the older 3D CAD file is superimposed over an area of new construction, any new features are immediately obvious.
  • The stereoplotter operator need not turn away from the instrument to check graphical objects.
  • The operator may choose between color or monochrome display for superimposed objects.
  • Superimposed vectors automatically update with zooming on Summit Evolution and on the DAT/EM IMA, Zeiss P-series, and Leica SD2000/SD3000 plotters.
  • The stereoplotter elevation may be displayed with superimposed text.
  • Hardware installation need not be a concern. A DAT/EM technician will install the necessary optics and video hardware.
  • There is an option for thin or thick lines, depending on user preference.
  • The superimposed image can be turned on or off with a single command.
  • Auto-calibration allows for easy image registration.
  • Zooming is supported (auto scaling is available on select stereoplotters with zoom functionality).
  • Fast panning speeds.
  • Fast speed of new vectors.
  • Simple operation.
  • Supports resolution of up to 1024 x 768.
